The Job
During my internship at FERRAH, a sustainable fashion brand founded by Lela Orr, I had the opportunity to engage in various aspects of the fashion industry. As an intern, I was involved in a wide range of tasks that encompassed pattern making, production, fabric sourcing, styling, and content ideation during photoshoots. At FERRAH I encountered numerous situations that pushed me out of my comfort zone, leading to personal and professional growth. This experience challenged me to step beyond my boundaries and allowed me to hone my skills, ultimately transforming me into a more skilled and confident designer.
The Pieces I made
One of my notable accomplishments during this internship was the creation of a versatile bridal skirt. This skirt was designed to be worn at two different lengths and featured a fully corseted structure, showcasing the brand's commitment to both elegance and functionality. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to the development of such a key piece within FERRAH's collection.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to work on the pattern development for their frill pantie and thong designs. I meticulously crafted the patterns and successfully sewed a sample of the frill pantie, demonstrating my attention to detail and precision in garment construction.
The processes
Throughout my internship, I gained valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of the fashion design process, from conceptualization to execution. I also honed my skills in fabric sourcing, natural fabric, tech pack creating, dyeing techniques, and social media management. Moreover, actively participating in photo shoot styling and assisting on set provided me with insights into the dynamic and creative world of fashion production.
Overall, my internship at FERRAH with Lela Orr was a transformative experience that allowed me to deepen my knowledge of sustainable fashion, enhance my technical skills, and contribute to the development of unique and innovative designs. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such a forward-thinking and environmentally conscious fashion brand.
